PARISH TAX COLLECTOR RECEIVES COMMENDATION – by Janet Clerkin

Gloria R. White was guest of honor at the recent Parish community dinner. She received a commendation from County Legislature Chairman Barry Leemann thanking her for a lifetime of community service and her 23 years as tax collector for the Town of Parish. Mrs. White was born in Pulaski in 1919 and moved to Parish as a young girl. She has been involved in numerous volunteer and community organizations throughout her life.  The commendation recognized her “contagious example of life in full celebration and for 92 years of love being shared one friend at a time.” Mrs. White also received a commendation from Town Supervisor Steve Stelmashuck and the Town of Parish.

The annual Holiday Community Dinner held on Nov. 29 at the Grist Mill Restaurant was enjoyed by
about 30 members and friends. Among the friends were Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, Patti Holst
as a representative for Senator Patty Ritchie; Chairman of the Oswego County Legislature, Barry Leemann;
Parish Town Supervisor Steve Stelmashuck and Parish Mayor Leon Heagle and his wife Susanne.
The focus of the evening was the recognition and honor given to Mrs. Gloria White for her
service to the Town of Parish as Tax Collector from Jan. 1, 1990 to the end of 2011.
Gloria is retiring at the age of 92. Gloria received commendations and proclamations from Senator Patty Ritchie,
Legislator Barry Leemann and Town Supervisor Steve Stelmashuck.
Parish Town Supervisor Steve Stelmashuck also recognized with framed certificates of appreciation to Sharon White
for her service as Deputy Tax Collector and Clerk to the Tax Collector and to Alysia Schreyer for her 2003 design of the
Parish Town Seal.
In their absence, the framed certificates of appreciation were read in recognition:
to Ernie McDonald for bringing notoriety to Paris for his musical abilities and his 1995 induction
into the Old Time Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame.
to Cristina O’Hara for her 2011 stylization of the Parish Town Seal.
to Charlie Wing for his past service as Chair of the Parish Zoning Board of Appeals.
Kudos to you all, with a special thanks to Charlene Dano for organizing this wonderful event, and to the
Grist Mill Restaurant for the pleasant accommodations, delicious food and superior service.
